A New EEG Signal Processing Technique for Discrimination of Eyes Close and Eyes Open
نویسنده
چکیده
Earlier difficulties have been observed in generating control sequences for prosthesis as well as other applications when using biological signals such as EEG. This paper deals with a new methodology of using EEG and discriminating between close/open state of the eyes. Digitized signal of duration 3 seconds had been divided into 8 segments and a digital band pass (BP) filter (Butterworth) implemented to extract the noise from alpha rhythm. The output of the band pass niter for each segment is used as a wcightage factor for the same segment before filtering and signal of the each segment was processed hy fast fourier transform (FFT) and power spectra analysis. Hy comparing the frequency of peak power before and after processing for each segment of eyes closed and eyes opened, the results show that the two states of the eyes have been clearly discriminated.

Feasibility of the Application of Moment Of Inertia as a Feature to Study High-Frequency Bands in Brain Signals
Introduction Many features, emerging from mathematical techniques, have been used in the analysis of brain signals. In this study, the physical quantity of “moment of inertia” (MOI) was introduced as a feature to enhance high-frequency waves (HFWs) in electroencephalography (EEG). Materials and Methods In this research, the recorded EEGs from F3, F4, and Cz points in 20 males were used. A total...
متن کاملP81: Detection of Epileptic Seizures Using EEG Signal Processing
Epilepsy is the most common brain diseases that cause many problems in the daily life of the patient. In most attempts to automatic detection, the attack used an EEG. In this paper, The complete data set consists of five sets recorded from normal and epileptic patients. Each set containing 100 single-channel EEG segments. Here we used first and last sets (A and E). Set A consisted of segments r...
متن کاملEffects of Using the Vibratory Orthosis on Standing Balance in Patients With Parkinson ’s Disease
Objectives: The authors of this paper hypothesized that vibration stimulation applied by a vibratory orthosis improves balance in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD). In this study we evaluate this hypothesis. Methods & Materials: Fourteen PD patients (12 male and 2 female) with mean age of 59.9±9.1 (±SD) years were participated in this cross- sectional study. Using Biodex balance system,...
متن کاملCross coherence independent component analysis in resting and action states EEG discrimination
Cross Coherence time frequency transform and independent component analysis (ICA) method were used to analyse the electroencephalogram (EEG) signals in resting and action states during open and close eyes conditions. From the topographical scalp distributions of delta, theta, alpha, and beta power spectrum can clearly discriminate between the signal when the eyes were open or closed, but it was...
متن کاملReal Time Driver’s Drowsiness Detection by Processing the EEG Signals Stimulated with External Flickering Light
The objective of this study is development of driver’s sleepiness using Visually Evoked Potentials (VEP). VEP computed from EEG signals from the visual cortex. We use the Steady State VEPs (SSVEPs) that are one of the most important EEG signals used in human computer interface systems. SSVEP is a response to visual stimuli presented. We present a classification method to discriminate between...
